A Challenging Safety Quiz

ARE YOU BEING SAFE WITH SCAFFOLD? HAVE YOU READ UP ON THE OSHA SCAFFOLD REGULATORY DOCUMENT?

HERE IS A TEST QUESTION ON SCAFFOLD SAFETY:
TEST QUESTION 1:
Fill in the blank:
scaffold component shall be capable of supporting, without failure, its own weight and at least  times the maximum intended load applied or transmitted to it.

Now the following test question is basically the same as the last one but in MULTIPLE CHOICE format:
TEST QUESTION 2:
MULTIPLE CHOICE:
How many times the maximum intended load should a scaffold be capable of supporting?
  • a) 2 times
  • b) 3 times
  • c) 4 times
  • d) none of the above.

What is your answer?
Find the correct answer in the regulatory text from OSHA

So do you think that the wood plank that you are going to stand on will be able to support another plank plus four guys your size? If not, then it is not safe. Don't use it. Get rid of it. The manufacturer of an OSHA approved plank must have taken this into consideration, and therefore they must have designed their planks to meet the load requirements of OSHA. But should we assume that this is the case for all planks that we load things on?
